Farming Photos for 2019

As my first official year of retirement, farming (okay, gardening) was my primary focus, along with the associated activities of growing the seedlings in the Spring and canning the produce in the Fall.

In my excitement of June 2019 after breaking ground on my first Community Garden Plot I posted Community Garden Plot Day One. Not a very exciting post or photograph. Here we are in February 2020 and I realized I never shared Farming Photos for 2019! This blog post serves as a photo summary of my first year as a serious Farmer, okay, Gardener.

We'll stick to photos of the Community Garden Plot at the Wheeler House run by the South Burlington Recreation and Parks Department. We'll see photos of "Around the House" farming in a separate post.

This is my original 15' x 20' Garden Plot. The cost for the year was $45. Some tomatoes, peppers, cabbages and squash. The usual things, all grown from seed.

It was a very late gardening launch for the Community Gardens here in Vermont because of the cold wet Spring. The second week of June was when the gardens were plowed and ready for planting. So it was now July 1st and my neighbor never showed. I couldn't stand to see the 15' x 20' plot go empty so I asked and was given permission to expand operations.

July turned into August and the people who leased the plot next to my second plot never showed. So I expanded my domain once again!

Here are photos of the three plots in a more mature state. In the 2nd plot I grew more peppers (mild and sweeter ones), brussel sprouts, cucumbers and watermelon. In the 3rd plot I grew more cabbage and a whole bunch of kale!

In early October it was our responsibility to return the garden to its natural state, so here is my Farming 2019 farewell photograph.
